Your New Favorite Game Day Snack
Spicy, sweet, smoky, and bacon?! These Bacon-Wrapped Lil’ Smokies are the ultimate party appetizer! Wrapped in crispy bacon and coated with an irresistible spice mix, these bite-sized smoky sausages pack a punch. Perfect for game days, holiday gatherings, or quick crowd-pleasing snacks. I made an entire tray of these for my family reunion this year, and they almost disappeared as soon as the line started! A warning: caveman-like grunts are likely to be heard once these are consumed. Do. Not. Interrupt.
This delicious appetizer is a perfect make-ahead dish. I like to prep these the night before and pop them in the oven right before the party.

I suggest having these items on hand before you start making this recipe.
- Toothpicks
- Aluminum foil
- Gallon Ziploc bags
- You can use any type of BBQ sauce for this recipe. I have been loving Pepper Palace’s Maple Bourbon Glaze!
I suggest draining the Lil’ Smokies and patting them dry on a baking sheet before wrapping them. Moisture is the enemy of a good crisp. Try to leave space between each piece on the pan. Like me, after a busy day, the bacon needs space! I usually bake on 2 trays, or you can bake them in batches. I promise, no one wants soggy bacon!
For You, Pops
My dad comes off as the strong, silent type. In reality, you’ll meet the biggest teddy bear. He’s always pushed my brother and me to give it our all with whatever we’ve set our minds on. He’s especially loved being a taste tester for the recipes on this site.
He’s always giving so much of himself to everyone else. He’s my role model for showing up for others. He mows our yard without being asked. He provides tech support to little old ladies in the hollers, including me. He plays pretend with my three-year-old with intense enthusiasm. He is my mom’s rock when her MS symptoms are slowing her down. He’s embraced me in a giant hug when it felt like my world was falling apart, again and again. We’re all lucky to have him in our lives. I can never repay him for all that he’s given me. I hope he knows that most of my recipe experiments stem from ideas that started with him in mind. Love you forever, Dad.

minutesIngredients
1 28 oz. package Lil’ Smokies
1 lb. thick cut bacon, cut into thirds
3/4 c light brown sugar
1 – 2 T chipotle seasoning, adjust to the spice level you like!
1 T garlic powder
BBQ sauce for serving
Directions
- Preheat oven to 370 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Open and drain the package of lil’ smokies and pat dry. You want them to be dry so the bacon can get nice and crispy while baking.
- Slice the bacon into thirds. Wrap each lil’ smokie with a piece of bacon. Secure with a toothpick.
- Mix brown sugar, garlic powder, and chipotle seasoning in a gallon-sized bag. Add smokies to the bag. You may need to do half of them at a time to get them covered.
- Gently toss the bites in the mixture. Be careful not to shake the bag too hard. This may cause them to come apart. Don’t poke yourself with all of the toothpicks!
- Bake 25 – 30 minutes, or until bacon is crispy.
- Serve with BBQ sauce of your choice.
